March 31 -- Community Health Fair

It's health fair time. The health department is always at the center of many activities at the fair. The Children's Health Fair is on March 30. The community fair is the following day, March 31, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"If you think you've seen one health fair, you've seen them all; that is not the case," Hilliard said, "Every year they get better." This year will feature a granny basketball game. The granny team from Iowa will play some Lincoln women.

March 31 -- Extravaganza set to help seniors

Cuts in state funding have led a local agency to get creative in making up for losses. CIEDC has planned a Jimmy Buffet-style fundraiser, "Cheeseburgers in Paradise," to keep the senior programs in place. The evening of entertainment and dinner is planned to begin at 6 on March 31 at the American Legion.

Funds will be used to help bring meals to shut-ins and home-bound and for those seniors who can get out to the congregate center for meals. Last month the department provided 1,200 transportations and 3,300 meals to these seniors.

Tickets are on sale now for $25 each or $40 for a couple. To purchase or reserve tickets, call 217-732-2159.

"Thank you for your support because without this we would not be staying as strong as we are," director Angie Jenkins said.

The Relay For Life is set to take place at Lincoln Christian College and Seminary on May 19. Events will include the customary survivor lap, luminary memory walk, team walks, all-day food sales and a silent auction.
