Jack Smith

[May 07, 2007]  Jack A. Smith, 77, of Lebanon, Tenn., formerly of Lincoln, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at University Hospital in Lebanon.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln.

A graveside service for Mr. Smith will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at Lucas Chapel Cemetery, rural Lincoln, with the Rev. Julie Azbell officiating. Military rites will be conducted.

Mr. Smith worked for Yellow Cab Company in Chicago for 28 years before he retired.

He was born July 17, 1929, in Lincoln to Oria J. and Florence Aery Smith Sr. He was received into God's kingdom through Holy Baptism in March 1930. He married Doris McKay on June 30, 1954, in Chicago.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years; two sons, Jack O. (and Frances) Smith of Lebanon, Tenn., and Robert D. (and Kim) Smith of Winchester, Tenn.; one brother, Don (and Carol) Smith of Marion, Iowa; two sisters, Fern (and Charles) Turley of Kimberling, Mo., and Joyce (and James) Pinney of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Margurette (and Erik) Wigsmoen, Oria D. Smith, Lisa (and Thomas III) Keel, John J. Smith, Michael Rogers, Randy Smith and Shelby Smith; five great-grandchildren, Zachery Wigsmoen, Alexis Wigsmoen, Thomas Keel IV, Dalton Keel and Ariona Keel; an uncle, Frank Smith of Park Forest; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; Decemmae Armstrong, Mary Ellen Bennett and Marguerite Smith; one brother, Oria J. Smith Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

He attended school in Lincoln, and he moved to Chicago in 1948.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the family.
