Logan County Relay for Life's BIGGEST event in 10-year history

Send a link to a friend

To the editor:

It was over $100,000 on Saturday night, before the brunch on Sunday. It's the biggest amount in Logan County's 10-year [Relay for Life] history.

Words cannot express or convey the roller coaster of emotions that you go through as you watch your neighbors pour out their love for one another. There are images in my mind that will be with me for years to come: a firetruck with a little girl with cancer, which served as this year's grand marshal, and her family leading the survivor lap to begin the day's events; through tear-filled eyes witnessing and recognizing friends and family in the survivor lap and applauding them for their courage while standing with them in hope to find a cure; a lady in a wheelchair with oxygen who wanted to be a part of her community's effort to stamp out cancer; conversations with friends I didn't know were fighting cancer or had  battled it and won; scores of friends and people who looked familiar, along with people I don't even know, who kept coming to walk the track because they knew someone who has been touched by this awful disease; spirited live and silent auctions; cake walks and games; food, fun and sweet fellowship; and the over 1,200 luminaries that lit the track during the reading of all the names of people Logan County love.

Thank you, Logan County! You're the best!

Karen Hargis
