[May 21, 2007]  McLEAN -- William F. Bailey, 61, of McLean died Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 2:37 p.m. at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McLean Christian Church, with Tony Billingsley officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Burial will be in McLean Cemetery.

Quiram Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta is handling arrangements.

Mr. Bailey was a former police officer and chief of police with the villages of McLean, Heyworth and Farmington. He retired from the McLean County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff after 20 years of service. He was the current mayor of McLean.  

He was born Aug. 17, 1945, in Plattsmouth, Neb., to William L. and Gertrude E. Ptacek Bailey. He married Barbara Hershe on March 13, 1971, in Lexington.

He is survived by his wife of 36; two sons, Brian K. Bailey of McLean and Scott (and Amy) Bailey of Lincoln; three sisters, Diane Glave of Kentucky, Susan M. Ross of Normal and Judy E. Zimmer of Herington, Kan., two brothers, James T. Bailey of Orange Park, Fla., and Steven J. Bailey of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He graduated from Chicago Vocational High School.
