Charles Keys

[November 07, 2007]  Charles James Keys, 87, of Asheville, N.C., died Oct. 30, 2007, at Solace Center in Asheville.

He was born July 23, 1920, in Atlanta. He lived in Lincoln and then at age 53 moved to Yellville, Ark., where he lived for 27 years. He moved to North Carolina in 2001.

He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and worked in the mechanics trade for most of his life. He retired from the National Park Service in 1982.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Stella Mae Hutchcraft Keys, and his older brothers, John, Raymond and Bill.

He is survived by his three children, Barbara June of Springfield, James Michael of Chimney Rock, N.C., and David Lee of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was scheduled for Nov. 8 at Reed Memorial Baptist Church in Asheville, N.C.

The graveside service will be Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. in Harmony Cemetery, Beason, with the Rev. Dayle Eldredge officiating.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of local arrangements.
