To the editor: Harvest of Talents Note of Appreciation
A few days ago, we were honored to present $83,464.64 to
International Disaster Emergency Service on behalf of the 24th
Harvest of Talents for World Hunger. I am humbled by Pat Snyder's
vision and founding of Harvest of Talents 24 years ago and the
kindness, devotion and generosity of our community as expressed
through the enduring support of Harvest of Talents.
Hunger is a reality for many people all over the world, but
through the Harvest of Talents for World Hunger ministry, you have
come together with your time, talents, prayers and a measure of your
resources to help in a very real and direct way. Whatever your
participation in the Harvest, God has surely blessed it to help
answer prayers for daily bread locally and around the world.
While the most precious thanksgiving comes from hunger victims --
those you may never get to meet this side of heaven -- I want to
thank our community, on behalf of the 22-member Harvest Ministry
Team that works throughout the year to coordinate Harvest events:
Heartfelt thanks are given to the businesses who have donated
door prizes for our spring tea, garden walk and golf outing; to
those who helped promote the Harvest with ticket sales, fliers and
ad sponsorship, including the creative and responsive coverage of
the Harvest on
www.lincolndailynews.com, in the Lincoln Courier, the chamber,
the Pantagraph, CITV Channel 5, WAND-TV and radio stations. We thank
Cape Landing, Century Dental, Guzzardo's, and Logan County
Genealogical & Historical Society for hosting window displays of
handcrafted items sold later on Harvest Day. It was so nice to have
George Henrichsmeyer's outdoor soup kettles and John Bevard's potato
fryers to use on Harvest Day.

Mike Maske donated his professional services as our dedicated
auctioneer. Weyerhaeuser Co. donated cardboard, and Area Disposal
provided trash boxes and pickup. Burger King provided carryout
supplies, and Country Bob's gave us the barbecue sauce. IGA, Dollar
Tree and Dollar General gave bags and baskets for our shoppers.
Donations of many 50-pound bags of potatoes to the local food pantry
and area charities were much appreciated. Diane of Studio 620 helped
make available new logo-wear items. Lincoln Christian Church and
Jefferson Street Christian Church provided facilities, eager
volunteers and ongoing prayer support.
Thank you to everyone who recycles aluminum cans and printer ink
cartridges for the Harvest and to each of you saving your dimes in
an IDES fish bank. With such commitment to make a difference, we are
all blessed in this giving.
But, you know the problem of listing those to thank -- sadly, it
is always incomplete! But I am confident that God knows how you
tried to help with world hunger relief, and he is the source of your
blessings and will multiply your offerings.
The Harvest is not just about the money that is raised. While
money buys the food for hunger relief, it is the gospel the
missionaries bring with the food that nourishes souls -- and the
relationships that are built and strengthened along the way.
You were all great to work with and exemplary in your heart for
the hungry. Let's do it all again next year as we celebrate the 25th
anniversary of Harvest of Talents!
Blessings,
Carolyn Neal
Harvest chairperson
