Donald Burks

[November 23, 2007]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Donald I. Burks, 92, of Mount Pulaski died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at 1:25 a.m. at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Illini Cemetery, rural Warrensburg.

Mr. Burks was a retired farmer.

He was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Christian County to Irvin L. and Esther S. Furstenberg Burks. He married Dorothy Camp in 1937 and she died in 1938. He married Helen Emrick in Mattoon on Dec. 27, 1941; she preceded him in death on Oct. 2, 1994.

He is survived by one daughter, Charlotte (and Dale) Mattingly of Columbia; one brother, Elmo (and Francis) Burks of Burlson, Texas; a sister-in-law, Mary Burks of Decatur; three grandchildren, Allen Mattingly of Waterloo, Brenda Rey of Waterloo and Karla Landgraf of Red Bud; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters, one brother and an infant son, Richard.

He was a member of the Mount Pulaski First United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee for many years.

Memorials may be made to Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.
