Controversial issues:
As a
community we need to be able to talk openly about
matters that affect the quality of our lives. The
most effective and least offensive manner to get

To the editor: A huge thank you to all who made the Elkhart Fall
Festival a sparkling success. The success comes from the dedication
of the people of this wonderful town and from the desire of the
merchants to help Elkhart continue to grow.
The fall festival was held Sept. 22 and included vendors from all
over the Lincolnland area, Kathy and Bill Cosby's Simplicity open
house, the music of Jim Landers, the local religious youth groups of
the Catholic and Christian churches, the local Brownies
organization, Mr. Maxheimer's homemade ice cream, antique tractors,
vintage cars, Indian artifacts, library fun and games, Illinois
State Police Heritage Foundation vintage car, the Farmer's Market,
and finally, to finish off the day, Mr. Jim Ireland from Lincoln had
three of the local hot-air balloonists take off from town.

The local businesses commented on increased sales and exposure.
A special thank you to Mayor Anderson and Mrs. Anderson for
putting up the barricades on Main Street. Another special thank you
to St. Patrick's Catholic Church for taking the garbage for the
day.
With your continued help we will continue to expand on these
kinds of events to help central Illinois get to know Elkhart much
better and be known for its great people, places, atmosphere and
attitude.
