William Farwell

[October 22, 2007]  William "Bill" L. Farwell, 63, of Lincoln died at his home Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at noon after a seven-month battle with brain cancer.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Street Christian Church.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Tom Ewald and Dustin Fulton officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.

Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Farwell worked at Lehn & Fink and Grant City before retiring from Myers Industries in 2005 after 29 years of service.

He was born in Long Beach, Calif., on Nov. 29, 1943, to Leo W. and Valeta B. Negley Farwell. He married Beth Tanner on Nov. 27, 1970 in Medaryville, Ind. She survives.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Chad William Farwell and Eric Scott Farwell, both of Lincoln; two daughters, Kara Beth (and Bart) Holzer of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Lori Linda (and Gabe) Rutledge of Mattoon; one sister, Janice Nelson of Huntington Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren, Drake Thomas and Hadley BethAnn Rutledge of Mattoon and Zane William Holzer of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; and several nieces and a nephew in California and Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

He was a charter member of Jefferson Street Christian Church, where he taught an adult Bible school class for many years, was a past elder and served on many committees.

He graduated from Huntington Beach High School, Orange Coast Junior College and Pacific Christian College, all in California. He also attended Lincoln Christian College and Seminary.

He was an avid reader, with a personal library of more than 2,000 books on history, theology, politics and psychology.

Memorials may be made to Jefferson Street Christian Church or Lincoln Christian College and Seminary.
