Calf Carcasses Found Near Wyoming School

[April 04, 2008]  CASPER, Wyo. (AP) -- A student from a rival high school was disciplined after the carcasses of two dissected calves were found outside Natrona County High School, a school official said. The calves were found just before 7 a.m. Wednesday and quickly covered so most students were not exposed to them.

One carcass was placed on a hurdle on the school's track. The other was placed on a railing near the front entrance of the main building, with internal organs on the ground around it.

Wayne Beatty, Natrona County School District safe schools administrator, said he didn't think there was any malicious intent behind what he termed a prank.

Beatty said the carcasses were remains taken from an advanced science class at Casper's other high school, Kelly Walsh.

A 17-year-old female at Kelly Walsh High School confessed to taking part in the prank but has not shared names of other possible accomplices, he said.

"We don't believe for a minute that this girl was the only one, but what we know for sure is this person confessed to the situation," Beatty said.

Casper police issued a citation for trespassing, and animal control issued one for improper disposal of animal carcasses.

Beatty described the girl as a "student that a teacher would be proud to have in any of her classes."

"This was a very, very poor choice on the part of an otherwise excellent student," he said.
