William
Daniel "Bill" Hollenbeck, 74, of Lincoln, died Friday, April 4,
2008, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holland Barry and
Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 11 a.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home, with Ron Otto officiating. |
Burial will be in New Union Cemetery. Mr.
Hollenbeck taught high school electricity and
electronics for 25 years in Barrington and Lincoln.
He retired from teaching in 1990 and began building,
restoring and repairing arch-top guitars.
He served his country in the U.S. Army Signal
Corps from 1955 to 1957 and was stationed in Vicenza,
Italy, during that time.
He was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Marshall to
William Wayne and Ruth Reece Hollenbeck. He married
Sandra Joy Thornton on March 9, 1955, in Mount
Carmel.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy, of Lincoln;
one son Doug (and Cathy) of Austin, Texas; one
daughter, Jeannie (and Ed) Poe of Las Vegas, Nev.;
one sister, Ruth Miller of Norman, Okla.; and four
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother, Arthur Wayne Hollenbeck.
He attended Lincoln Christian Church and was a
member of the Association of Stringed Instruments
Artisans, Chet Atkins Appreciation Society,
DeWitt-Logan Retired Teachers Association and the
Illinois Retired Teachers.
He graduated from Marshall High School, received
a bachelor's degree in education from Eastern
Illinois University and a master's in industry and
technology from Murray State University. |
He was a partner with his father in Appliance Sales
and Service, an electrical and gas contracting
business in Marshall, until 1965, when he entered
the teaching profession.
In retirement, he exhibited guitars in many
states, including shows at the Smithsonian in
Washington, D.C., in 1996 and 1998.
Memorials may be made to Lincoln Christian Church
or to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary,
designated for the Lifeline program.
