[April 24, 2008]  WAYNESVILLE -- Francis Lee Goff, 93, of Mission Viejo, Calif., died April 12, 2008, in California.

Funeral services were held in California.

Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta was in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Goff and his wife moved to California in 1949. He designed defense and space systems before he retired in 1979.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was born in Trenton as the youngest of 10 children of William Lee and Carrie Dye Goff. He married Grace Mae Finfrock, the eldest daughter of George and Nellie Finfrock, on June 6, 1937. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2006.

He is survived by his four children, Bill (and Tatyana) Goff, Nancy Goff, Susan (and Jim) Steinbarth and Debbie (and Angel) Calvo, all of California; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Survivors in the Midwest include Jean Finfrock of Waynesville, Lottie Scott of Rockford and Vern Fletcher of Camdenton, Mo.

He graduated from Illinois State University.

He always continued his interest in education and teaching.
