John McLendon

[April 28, 2008]  John Eli McLendon, 70, of Lincoln, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at 11:05 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Ron Otto officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service.

Mr. McLendon worked as supervisor in receiving at Lehn & Fink for 31 years and retired in 1996.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, Georgia National Guard and the Army Reserves.

He was born April 23, 1938, in Pike County, Alabama, to P.C. and Laura Snead McLendon. A stepmother, Estelle, helped raise John. He married Darlene Rohlfs on May 23, 1986, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; two daughters, Lori (and Terry) Whitson of Blane, Tenn., and Vicki Bramlett of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Sherri (and Jim) Basket of Springfield and Angela Kay White of Atlanta; one sister, Faye (and Jerry) Toller of Pensacola, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; and his beloved friend, his miniature dachshund, Maddie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Estelle; one sister, Kay Moatz; and one brother, Homer McLendon.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He enjoyed golf and bowling.
