[December 12, 2008]  "Happy Holidays" to each of you from Lincoln Park District. Join us as we sponsor our second annual holiday home outdoor decorating contest. You may enter online at www.lincolnparkdistrict.com or register by calling 732-8770. Judging will be on Dec. 19 and winners will be announced Dec. 22. Outdoor decorations will be judged on originality, complexity and overall theme. All judges' decisions will be final. First place will receive a one-year, full-access family membership, second place a six-month family circuit membership, and third place will win a three-month family circuit membership. You must be registered by Dec. 18 in order to qualify.

This time of year has us looking for ways to stay fit and healthy. For college students home for the holidays, the park district once again offers full-access memberships. This pass enables unlimited use of the facility and includes aerobics and spin classes. This membership is available Dec. 12-Jan. 20. Must have a college ID.

Business memberships are offered when five or more employees join from a single company. Each member receives the in-district price plus a 10 percent discount. Either the business or the individual members may pay their annual fees. Oftentimes this type of membership helps in finding a friend to work out with, not to mention the financial benefits.

The park district is currently signing up teams for winter co-ed volleyball. This is a great opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy a recreational league sport. Games are played on Tuesday evenings in the Sports Center. Have fun and get your exercise too. The season is expected to begin in January and will end with a double-elimination tournament.

January will offer lots of new ideas for fun and learning at the park district. Offerings will include a creative writing class and Kids in the Kitchen, a cooking class featuring kid-friendly recipes that will be aired on CITV5. February brings digital photography classes taught by Stephen Klemm of Picture This Photography.

If you are looking for Christmas gift ideas, give the gift of health. Lincoln Park District offers gift certificates in any dollar amount. These may be purchased and applied toward any of the programs or memberships available.
