Counterfeit currency in area

Send a link to a friend

To the editor:

I thought I would inform you of some newsworthy information in order for consumers and merchants to be aware.

About a week ago, while making a Legends Billiards Bar bank deposit, it was discovered that one of the 50s was possibly counterfeit. The bank sent it off to the Fed for verification. I was told yesterday, the Fed confirmed it was. The customer who gave it to us, very well could have received it from any other location or another person who had no idea it was counterfeit. We were just out the $50.

However, since this has happened and going forward, we are taking special precaution to check the currency. Even though this was just one bill that may have slipped through the cracks, I thought it best to let you know so you may want to give a "heads up" to everyone else out there, especially through the holidays. Merchant and consumers, "beware."

Thank you.
