[December 18, 2008]  DANVILLE -- The Lincoln College men's basketball team won 71-68 at Danville Community College on Wednesday evening. The Lynx move to 9-6 and 2-0 in the conference.

Commentary from Lincoln coach Kirk Whiteman:

"This was an incredible effort tonight on the defensive end. Not only that, we were down 11 at halftime (27-38) and fell behind as many in 16 in the second half.

"Our biggest problem in the first half was our offense. We took too many quick shots, we were 0-10 on 3-pointers, and this created quick transition buckets for Danville -- number one because we weren't ready to rebound after a quick shot, and the long rebounds from the missed 3-pointers credit Danville with at least 10 points off transition in the first half.

"The second half was a different story: Don Gavin was able to score 10 points (14 total for game) in the paint and Chris Ware four points (eight points total), while Bryce Davis only scored four points, but boy, were they big. He got an offensive tip-in late in the game, then got an offensive rebound with 9.1 seconds left as we were up 69-68 and got fouled on the put-back attempt, then hit two free throws to put us up three (final score 71-68).

"Colby Johnson and Brandon Farmer led the Lynx with 18 points each. Farmer really showed some toughness down the stretch, picking up three chargers in the final three minutes. He was a warrior for us tonight as was Colby. Cortez Augusta really inspired us defensively tonight and chipped in 11 points.

"I am extremely happy our team battled from 16 down on the road against a very tough Danville team. Our team really showed some toughness in the second half. I am really proud of them."

The next game is Jan. 7 at home versus Illinois Central College.
