[December 29, 2008]  EFFINGHAM -- Tania E. Gordon, 71, of Effingham, earned her wings on Dec. 18, 2008, when she was called home to God. She passed peacefully at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon.

Rites of cremation and a private family service were to be held, according to her wishes.

Hall Funeral Chapel in Effingham is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gordon was an occupational therapist for Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital and had been an OT in Florida as well as other Illinois cities.

She was born Dec. 5, 1937, in Lincoln to C. Loren and Frances Stringer. She married Charles Gordon of Florida in Chicago in 1960 and he survives.

Others left to treasure her memory are two sisters, Becky (and Tom) Steele and Gail Fisher of Effingham; two sons, Mike Gordon of Florida and Jon Gordon of Effingham; and two daughters, Laura (and Ross) Axiotis of New Jersey and Kristin Gordon of California. Grandsons are Yuji Thomas Gordon and Dean Axiotis.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

She was a member of Greenland Baptist Church, Great Lakes Harpers and Little Harps on the Prairie, and OT professional organizations.

She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Lincoln College and the University of Illinois.

Tania loved music and played the piano, harp and flute. She enjoyed painting, sewing and all creative crafts. She adored her cats. She traveled in Europe, lived in Japan and enjoyed international cultures and foods. The world's people were a fascination to her, and there was no one who was a stranger. She was a kind, gentle lady who always had a smile, said positive things and cared tenderly for all she met.

She will be sadly missed by her family, hosts of friends and co-workers, and her two cats.

Memorials may be made to Greenland Baptist Church or Effingham Humane Society.

What could be more beautiful than to be called home for the birthday of Jesus?
