[February 07, 2008]  BLOOMINGTON -- Ten sectional championship games in the 2008 Illinois Elementary School Association eighth-grade boys basketball tournament series remain to be played, and all are scheduled for Thursday night. The winners advance to their respective Class 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A state final tournaments scheduled to begin Saturday.

The recent severe weather has played havoc with the regional and sectional schedules. Only 22 of the 32 sectional winners have been determined.

In Class 1A, two sectional games are on tap. Pontiac St. Mary's (10-12) plays Tonica (16-6) for the Sectional 2 crown, while Hartsburg-Emden (16-6) battles Peoria Limestone Walters (19-3) at Peoria (map) for the Sectional 3 title.

In Class 2A, two sectional games are scheduled. Bourbonnais St. George (19-3) faces Morris Saratoga (13-9) for the Sectional 1 crown, and Carthage (22-1) battles Payson Seymour (22-2) for the Sectional 6 title.

Three games are to be played in Class 3A. Herscher Limestone (21-2) meets Paxton-Buckley-Loda (15-6) for the Sectional 2 crown. In the Sectional 1 game, Calumet City Schrum meets Crest Hill Richland (18-5). Glasford Illini Bluffs (20-6) battles Monmouth-Roseville (13-8) for the Sectional 5 title.

Class 4A sectionals will be played at three sites. Joliet Hufford (18-6) plays Sterling Challand (18-3) for the Sectional 4 crown. Woodridge Jefferson (15-1) meets Homer Glen Homer (19-5) for the Sectional 1 title. South Holland McKinley (19-2) and University Park Crete Monee play for the Sectional 2 title.

Pairings for the respective Class 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A state final tournaments can be found on the IESA site at www.iesa.org.
