Gladys Aper, 87, of Lincoln died
Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at 11:24 a.m. at The Christian Village.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Richard Jorgensen officiating.
Visitation will be from noon until the service time. |
Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery,
Hartsburg. Mrs. Aper had been supervisor of the
dietary department at St. Clara's Manor. Before her
marriage she worked at the Gem Lunch Room.
She was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Elkhart to Charles
Hepburn and Jessie Mae DeFrates Sloan. She married
John G. Aper on Feb. 27, 1946. He preceded her in
death.
She is survived by one daughter, Janice "Jan"
(and Kenneth) Melbourne of Lincoln; one brother,
Charles (and Mary Ann) Sloan of Lincoln; two
sisters, Evelyn (and Edgar) Logan of Lincoln and
Helen Singley of Lincoln; two grandsons, John (and
Lisa) Leaser of Springfield and Jason (and Dana)
Leaser of Lincoln; four stepgrandchildren, Diana
Ackerman and David Melbourne, both of Port Huron,
Mich., David Wayne (and Kelly) Leaser of Kalispell,
Mont., and Michelle Overby of Lincoln; four
great-grandchildren, Brittany Sloan Leaser, Mitchell
Blake Leaser and Bradley Scott Leaser, all of
Lincoln, and Cole Aaron Leaser of Springfield; 12
step-great-grandchildren, Katrina (and Charles)
Parker, Matt Ackerman, Daniel Melbourne, Tyler
Confer, Elizabeth Confer, Heather Leaser, Bradley
Posey, Tiffany Biama, Adam Babica, Kali Clemmons,
Dakota Smith and Destiny Smith; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers,
Robert Franklin Sloan as an infant and Stephen "Bud"
Sloan; three sisters, Helena "Sis" Hurley, Margaret
Newberry and Hope Klockenga; brothers-in-law Ralph
Newberry, Claude Hurley, Ed Newberry, Wendell-Klockenga
and Jim Singley; and a sister-in-law, Martha Sloan. |
She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church, the
Jolly Seniors and the Little Lambs Sunday school
class of the church. She was a past member of Emden
Christian Church, where she taught the nursery class
in Sunday school.
She was an active volunteer for The Christian
Village.
She will always be remembered for her great love
for children and their love for her. She always
found a way to bring happiness and joy into the
lives of everyone around her.
