Preachers

The Panthers of Principia College defeated the Preachers of Lincoln Christian College in a thrilling double-overtime contest Saturday at Laughlin Center as the Preachers team of 1965-66 -- new inductees of LCC's Athletic Hall of Fame -- looked on.

With seven minutes to go in regulation, LCC enjoyed a five-point lead. Then 10 straight points by Principia put them ahead, but the Preachers rallied to tie the game on a 3-point off-balance shot by Grant Zimmerman, tying the score at 74-74. The teams both scored 12 points in the first overtime before Principia gained the final advantage by outscoring LCC 10-5 in the second overtime.

The final score of 106-105 drops the Preachers to 6-16 for the season.

The Preachers enjoyed a balanced scoring attack with five players scoring in double figures. Adam Everett shot very well and scored 26 points before fouling out in regulation. Jon Wallace scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Matt Searby added 20 points, Grant Zimmerman 11 and Landon Callahan 10.

Principia also put five scorers in double figures, led by Kyle Johnson's 37 points and 20 rebounds.

The Preachers will next be in action Wednesday at home against Blackburn College.

Angels

The Principia College Panthers defeated the Lincoln Christian College Angels 72-39 Saturday at Laughlin Center.

Tasha Brown had an outstanding game with 13 points and 12 rebounds, getting help from Emma Hanford with eight points and eight rebounds; but the Angels, who were missing two players due to the flu and one because of knee injury, were not able to keep pace.

Principia had four different players in double figures, led by Christina Speer with 18 points and 14 rebounds and Sara McDaniel with 16 points and 12 caroms.

The loss drops the Angels to 2-20 for the season.

They will play Monday at Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Iowa, before returning to face Blackburn College on Wednesday.
