Farris Cowan

[February 11, 2008]  CHESTNUT -- Farris Cowan, 98, of Chestnut, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at 10:15 p.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. Bill Shanle will officiate. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Lake Bank Cemetery.

Mr. Cowan was a retired farmer.

He was born Sept. 24, 1909, at Gold, Mo., to James and Myrtal Cowan. He married Pauline Stogdell in Latham on Aug. 20, 1930. She preceded him in death in June of 1992.

He is survived by two daughters, Katharine Ybarra of Peoria, Ariz., and Paula Taylor of Chestnut; one son, James Cowan (and Joan Bartels) of Marengo; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Harry Cowan of Illinois; two sisters, Nadine Hopkins of North Carolina and Maxine Bowers of Florida; and three grandchildren.

He was a member of Latham Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Chestnut Fire and EMS or the donor's choice.
