Preachers Win Big; Angels Drop Close Game

[February 21, 2008]  The LCC basketball teams played home games Wednesday with MacMurray.

Preachers

The Lincoln Christian College Preachers cracked the century mark with 7:53 left in the game on their way to a 119-96 defeat of the MacMurray College Highlanders. The Preachers took an early lead and never trailed.

LCC turned in their best offensive season output by shooting 61 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from behind the 3-point line in the first half. They maintained the same torrid shooting in the second half, with a final shooting percentage of 60 percent overall and 53.8 percent from the 3-point range. They were also very consistent at the free-throw line, making 13 of 15.

Ten different players scored for the Preachers, with seven in double figures. They were led by Jon Wallace with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Wallace received a lot of help from Landan Callahan with 21; Kyle Wilson with 17, including 5-for-9 on 3-pointers; Adam Everett with 16, with 4-for-7 on 3-pointers; Josiah Brock with 12 points, five assists and four blocked shots; and Matt Searby and Alex Bond with 10 points each. Searby also contributed a game-high 12 assists.

MacMurray placed four scorers in double figures, led by Neil Compton with 24.

The 8-17 Preachers will play Saturday at Fontbonne University.

Angels

The Angels of Lincoln Christian College played one of their better games of the year before dropping a six-point decision to the Highlanders of MacMurray College. After leading 30-29 at the half, the score was very close until the final three minutes, when MacMurray was able to prevail with a final score of 61-55.

The 2-24 Angels were led in scoring by Emma Hanford with 17, Jessica Blythe 14, Kim Kersey 11 and Danielle Snider 10. Kersey was 3-for-6 on 3-pointers.

MacMurray placed three in double figures, led by Abby Lowe with 19, Rachel Rogers 14 and Rene Evans 14.

The Angels will also be playing at Fontbonne University on Saturday.
