Logan County Board Honors Students

[February 27, 2008]  Pat O'Neill Students of the Month for December are seniors Christina Stoll of Mount Pulaski High School, Jillyn Cross of Hartsburg-Emden High School and Abigal Feldman of Lincoln Community High School.

January Students of the Month are LCHS seniors Sara Ann Rossetti and Cameron Kurtz.

Christina, daughter of Kenton and Marcia Stoll of Chestnut, is among the top 10 students academically in her class at Mount Pulaski High School. She is the secretary for the National Honor Society and a member of Drama Club and its cast and stage crew. She won the 2007 "What Memorial Day Means to Me" essay contest.

She was also captain of the Mount Pulaski High School state volleyball championship team and a 2007 Courier First Team player.

She teaches Vacation Bible School and plays her clarinet at Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut.

Jillyn, daughter of John and Julie Cross of Emden, is student council president for 2007-2008 at Hartsburg-Emden High School. She is also president of the Spanish Club and a four-year member of the club.

She has played varsity volleyball for four years and is the cheerleading captain for 2007-2008.

She has danced for 15 years and clogged for 11 years with the Flying Feet Cloggers.

She has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, mission trips to St. Louis and North Carolina, Lincoln/Logan County Food Pantry, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Operation Christmas Child and National Day of Prayer.

Abigal Feldman, daughter of Greg and Tina Feldman of Lincoln, is president of Active Catholic Teens, her church youth group.

She has gone Christmas caroling at St. Clara's Manor and Christian Homes Retirement Center Village, planted tulips in the community, and made and collected donations for Christmas gifts for needy children. She also walked in Relay For Life.

She helps raise awareness of the consequences of tobacco use and was involved with the Great American Smokeout and Alcohol Awareness Week. She was selected by the local police to be a D.A.R.E. role model. She visits grade schools to promote positive choices. She has also volunteered for Toys for Tots, Senior Citizen Prom and the YMCA and is a positive role model for Carroll Catholic School volleyball team.

Sara, daughter of Peter and Mary Rossetti of Lincoln, is a member of Future Business Leaders of America and a national presidential assistant for civic conscience. She was president of the Spanish Club for 2006-2007 at Lincoln Community High School. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and Future Educators of America.

She raised more than $2,000 for the 2007 CROP Walk. She is a D.A.R.E. role model.

Cameron, son of Kevin and Angela Kurtz of Lincoln, is a four-year member and the captain of the speech team at LCHS. He has been a member of the Logan County 4-H Federation and the Logan County 4-H Expansion and Review Council for four years.

He is a play-by-play commentator and analyst for Lincoln sports for Channel 5.

He volunteers at the Lincoln/Logan Food Pantry and is the president of Reality Illinois in Logan County. He helped with Positive Actions Relating to Youth.
