[January 11, 2008]  NORMAL -- Illinois State head baseball coach Jim Brownlee and his staff still have spots available for the upcoming winter hitting and pitching instructional clinics. Information on the upcoming sessions, as well as downloadable registration forms for each of the camps, can be found by clicking on the "Illinois State Baseball Camps" link on the baseball front page at GoRedbirds.com (or click here).

The winter hitting clinic will consist of four one-hour sessions, beginning with instruction from the Redbird baseball coaching staff and ending with hitting games for participants. Each participant will receive a baseball clinic T-shirt and be provided with statistics and evaluations of their performance throughout the hitting games to chart their progress from session to session.

The hitting clinic is open to elementary, junior high and high school participants, with each group having their own time slot at each camp session. Session 2 now begins Jan. 20, instead of the originally scheduled date of Jan. 13, and will continue Feb. 3, 10 and 17. All sessions will take place inside Horton Field House.

The winter pitching clinic is a one-day session on Jan. 27 that will give high school pitchers an opportunity to learn pitching philosophies from Brownlee, a successful college baseball coach for 29 years. The clinic will include instruction from Brownlee and his staff, and participants will receive a written evaluation at the completion of the session.

The clinic runs 1:30-6 p.m. inside Horton Field House, and registration fees are $75. The registration deadline for the pitching clinic is Jan. 24, but registration is limited to 60 participants and spots will fill up quickly.

For more information on either of the upcoming winter clinics, please contact Illinois State assistant baseball coach Mike Current by phone at 309-438-3338 or by e-mail at mpcurre@ilstu.edu.
