Herbert Barr

[January 21, 2008]  McLEAN -- Herbert Barr, 79, of McLean died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at 1:50 p.m. at St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the McLean United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Andy Maxwell officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barr retired from PPG Industries in Lincoln after 30 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1953 in occupied Japan and in the Korean War.

He was born in Campbellsville, Ky., to Clifford and Delmar Osborne Barr. He married Mary L. Ball in Ottawa on Aug. 16, 1955.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Hank (and Alice) Barr of Bloomington and Alan Barr of Normal; one daughter, Carolyn (and Keith) Gardener of Atlanta; three brothers, Smith Barr of Marseilles, Eugene Barr of Bloomington and Jimmie Barr of Waynesville; two sisters, Mildred Funk of Marseilles and Toni Hawkins of McLean; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Mr. Barr was a member of the McLean United Methodist Church and Buerger Benedict American Legion Post 573 in McLean.

Memorials may be made to his church or to American Legion Post 573.
