Harold Hum

[January 24, 2008]  Harold E. Hum, 79, of Lincoln died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Masonic rites will follow at 7 p.m.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Daniel Tuhy officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Union Cemetery.

Mr. Hum retired from state employment at Lincoln Developmental Center, where he was a laborer in the maintenance department from July 1969 until April 1991.

He served in the U.S. Army, with the 1st Armored Tank Battalion, from Jan. 1, 1955, to Dec. 31, 1956.

He was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Lincoln to Adolph and Nellye Karns Hum Sr. He married Maxine Ramlow on Aug. 5, 1956, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one daughter, Marla (and Don) Williams of Lincoln; one son, Scott (and Kim) Hum of St. Augustine, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Amy Williams of Springfield and Ryan Williams of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Joyce Lowery and Agnes Knollenberg; and one brother, Adolph Hum Jr. He was the last of his immediate family.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lincoln; Lincoln Lodge 210, where he was a past master; American Legion Post 263; and Laborers' International Union.

Memorials may be made to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Hospice, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lincoln or the American Cancer Society.
