[July 07, 2008]  James William "Jim" Bailey, 75, of Lincoln, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at home with his family.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jacob Skelton and the Rev. Josh Merreighn officiating.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Bailey was a machinist at GE in Decatur and PPG in Lincoln.

He served in the U.S. Navy, on a submarine, from 1951 to 1955.

He was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Mount Pulaski to Dwight Henry Bailey and Amelia Emma Louise Klotz Bailey. He married Viola "Vi" Fuehring on Sept. 1, 1957, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Robert James Bailey of Jesup, Ga.; two daughters, Janet (and Warren) Petersen of St. Helena Island, S.C., and Karol Lisa (and Shams) Hassani of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Todd Petersen and Erik Petersen of Beaufort, S.C., and Tiffany Leverton (and Kyle) of Oakford; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a cousin, Marlene Greenslate (and Roy) Reidleberger of Forsyth; and his beloved pets, Babe, Cali and Miss Kitty.

He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Director

Jim loved gardening, especially unique and rare tomatoes and flowers. He loved to take care of birds and animals. He was a licensed ham radio operator and a beekeeper. He also played the accordion. For many years he helped his wife in her ceramics shop.

He graduated from Feitshans High School in Springfield in 1950.

Memorial donations may be made to Wayne J. Schall Hospice or to the building fund at Lincoln Church of God and will be accepted at the funeral home.
