[July 16, 2008]  SOUTHPORT, England (AP) -- Golf's major governing bodies have come together to push for their sport to be added to the Olympic program in 2016.

The PGA Tour, Royal & Ancient, European PGA Tour, LPGA, U.S. Golf Association, PGA of America and Augusta National have joined forces to lobby the International Olympic Committee.

The IOC will decide in October 2009 on possible changes in the Olympic program at the same meeting at which it picks the host city for the 2016 Summer Games. The finalists are Chicago, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid.

Golf hasn't been an Olympic sport since 1904.
