Robert Barry

[July 25, 2008]  Robert John "Rob" Barry, 61, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at 1:07 p.m. at his home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 815 S. Second St. in Springfield (corner of Second and Lawrence). The Venerable Shawn W. Denney will officiate and Father Brendan Moss will preach.

Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery.

Mr. Barry was elected state's attorney of Logan County in 1980 and served one term, after which he engaged in the private practice of law until his retirement.

He was born Feb. 27, 1947, in Lincoln, to Henry John and Ruth Ann Johnson Barry. He married Susan Lord on Oct. 20, 2007 in Elkhart. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward M. Barry.

He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Springfield and served the Diocese of Springfield in a number of capacities: a member of the Commission on Ministry, a member of the Diocesan Council, chair of the Diocesan Prayer Fellowship, and executive board member and past president of the North American Council of the Anglican Fellowship of Prayer. He was preparing for ordination to the diaconate, having completed work in the Springfield School for Ministry and Clinical Pastoral Education.

He was past president of the Logan County Bar Association.

Funeral Director

Rob was a Boy Scout in his youth and later in life served on the local council board of the Boy Scouts. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his services.

He graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1965. He graduated from Hanover College and Drake University Law School and completed additional studies at the University of Exeter College of Law at Exeter, England.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Springfield.
