John Boice

[June 09, 2008]  MIDDLETOWN -- John S. Boice, 83, of Middletown, died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 6:38 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Middletown United Methodist Church, with Pastor Bob Ervin officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Irish Grove Cemetery, Middletown.

Mr. Boice worked 29 years at Dixie Dairy in Indiana and was a cabinetmaker at Myers Industries in Lincoln for 12 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born Aug. 4, 1924, at Middletown to Charles William and Beatrice Louise Steinhour Boice. He married Lois Elizabeth Newnam, and she preceded him in death in 1967. He married Barbara Steffens on Feb. 14, 1970, in Middletown. She survives.

He is also survived by three sons, John Charles Boice of Momence, Jerry Lee Boice of Antioch and Jason William Boice of Bloomington; one daughter, Judy Darlene (and Dennis) Lampley of Benton; one brother, Robert (and Marilyn) Boice of Lincoln; and three grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Joseph, and five brothers.

He was a member of Middletown United Methodist Church, a 32nd degree Mason in Greenview Lodge 653, and a member of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of South Bend, Ind.

In the military he served in the 100th Infantry Division, 397th 1st Battalion, Headquarters Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Memorials may be made to Middletown United Methodist Church or Middletown Fire and Rescue.
