Homer Hamblen

[June 16, 2008]  ATLANTA -- Homer L. Hamblen Sr., 91, of Atlanta, died Friday, June 13, 2008, at 4:40 p.m. at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Bloomington.

There will be a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Atlanta Cemetery, with the Rev. Rob Roy officiating.

No visitation is scheduled.

Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hamblen was a custodian at Atlanta Grade School for many years.

Homer Lee Hamblen was born Oct. 6, 1916, at Mount Vernon to Claud and Leona Pickett Hamblen. He married Mary Roberta "Peggy" Reynolds on May 17, 1938, in St. Charles, Mo. She preceded him in death on May 22, 2002.

He is survived by his three sons, Homer Lee (and Roslie) Hamblen Jr. of Atlanta, Gary Allen Hamblen of Mattoon and Gordon Ray (and Connie) Hamblen of Rushville; two brothers, Carl Hamblen of Kenney and Lyle Hamblen of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Leona Oberst of Bloomington; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Director

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Kay Hamblen; three brothers; and three sisters.

He was a member of the Atlanta Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Museum or the Atlanta Rescue Squad.
