[March 12, 2008]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Mary Helen Southern, 93, of Mount Pulaski, formerly of Latham, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 1:30 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Illini Cemetery, Warrensburg.

Mrs. Southern was a homemaker.

She was born April 1, 1914, at Latham to Charles and Margaret Wachter Alsup. She married Delbert H. Southern in Macon County on Aug. 12, 1934. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1994.

She is survived by one son, Del F. (and Sandra) Southern of Latham; one daughter, Connie (and Bennett) Biscan of Mount Dora, Fla.; two sisters, Bernice Disbrow and Mable McCane, both of Decatur; one brother, Raymond Alsup of Clinton; six grandchildren, Craig (and Debbie) Southern of Galesburg, Matthew (and Daphne) Southern of Springfield, Joel (and Carey) Southern of Villa Park, Ryan (and Alison) Southern of Decatur, Todd (and Erin) Biscan of St. Augustine, Fla., and Kelly (and Duane) Gossett of Sorrento, Fla.; and 10 great-grandchildren, Marissa Southern of Galesburg, Ava Marie and Thomas Allen Southern of Springfield, Paul Charles Southern of Villa Park, Linley and Nathan Southern of Decatur, Lauren and Taylor Biscan of St. Augustine, Fla., Ashley Jayne Hogsette of Sorrento, Fla., and Amanda SeRine of Sorrento, Fla.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Floyd and Carl.

She was a member of Latham Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Sunshine Club.

She enjoyed gardening and farming.

She graduated from Latham High School in 1932.

Memorials may be made to Latham Methodist Church, Latham Eastern Star or Latham Fire Department.
