Thomas Tibbs

[March 27, 2008]  Thomas "Tom" W. Tibbs, 73, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at 11:52 a.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. Prior to the visitation there will be a rosary service at 3:45 p.m.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Mount Pulaski, with Father Thomas Shaw officiating. 

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.
 
Mr. Tibbs was employed by Railway Express and Gulletts Flower Shop. He also taught fourth grade and coached all sports at Carroll Catholic School from 1962 until 1969. He later taught in the vocational center at Lincoln Community High School for 13 years. He and his wife owned Flowers by Tibbs / Weddings by Crystal along with working for Mental Health Centers of Central Illinois at the Logan-Mason Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln for 27 years.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was born May 2, 1934, in Gary, Ind., to Glenn W. and Mary A. Heinrich Tibbs. He married Crystal Bycroft on June 17, 1961, in Bloomington.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years; one son, Brian T. Tibbs of Aurora; and two sisters, Martha Crost of Wheeling and Mary Ellen (and William) Copeland of Granbury, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley McKearnan. 

He was a member and trustee at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Mount Pulaski.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953 and from Lincoln College in 1955.

Memorials may be made to the Logan-Mason Rehab Center, Carroll Catholic School or St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
