Deyell was an All-Valley First Team selection and won the ISU Most
Valuable Swimmer award this past season. She recorded 17 top-three
finishes on the season, including nine first-place marks. At the
State Farm MVC Championships, she broke the school records and
placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM. She
also set the MVC record and placed first in the 400-yard IM. She
recorded third-place finishes at the championship meet in the 400-
and 800-yard freestyle relays.
Deyell graduated with a 3.98 grade-point average with a double
major in criminal justice and sociology. A member of the AFNI
Athletics Honor Roll every semester at ISU, she received the
President's Council Academic Award from the Valley, which is the
highest academic award presented by the conference. She was also a
member of the MVC Honor Roll and an MVC Scholar-Athlete honoree in
women's swimming and diving.
"Tracy strives for excellence in everything she does," said head
coach Steve Paska. "Her passion and drive (were) very evident
whether she was in the pool or the classroom. She taught her
teammates endless lessons with her work ethic and endless drive for
perfection. She was a fierce competitor who didn't like to lose and
had a win-at-all-costs mentality. I think in her four years at
Illinois State she had one B in school. I am very grateful that she
called me five years ago wanting to come to Illinois State, and she
will go down as one of the best student-athletes in the history of
this program."
