Dr. Arthur Williamson

Dr. Arthur Ramsey Williamson, 82, of
Lincoln died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at 9:12 a.m. at Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. |
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lincoln
Christian Church, with Ron Otto and Paul Odom
officiating. Burial will be in Lucas Chapel
Cemetery, rural Middletown.
Dr. Williamson served in the medical profession
in Lincoln from 1964 until his retirement at age 70
in 1996.
He served in the U.S. Army at the close of the
European Theater in World War II.
He was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Lincoln as the
fourth of five children of Leslie and Beulah Scott
Williamson. He marred Marilyn Shaffner.
He is survived by his wife; five sons, Dr. David
(and Kim) Williamson, Bruce (and Cathy) Williamson,
Dr. Jeffrey (and Jane) Williamson, John (and Donna)
Williamson and Doug (and Michelle) Williamson; one
sister, Dorothy Cargill; one brother, Robert (and
Shirley) Williamson; a sister-in-law, Mildred; 17
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Two older brothers preceded him in death: Clyde
in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, and
Leslie just two months ago.
Dr. Williamson was member of Lincoln Christian
Church. He served on the board of education at
Lincoln Community High School for 14 years and
served his undergraduate alma mater on the alumni
board and board of trustees. He helped coach the
Little League Lions team. |
After graduating from Lincoln High School, where he
earned eight varsity athletic letters, he studied
pre-medicine from 1947 to 1951 at Illinois College
in Jacksonville, where he met his future wife. He
later graduated from the University of Illinois
College of Medicine in Chicago and subsequently
received his surgical training under the renowned
Warren H. Cole, chief of surgery at the same
institution.
He was honored as a fellow in the American
College of Surgeons. In 1971, he was honored as the
"Courier Man of the Year."
The family expresses thanks to Dr. Kasa and
Lincoln Christian Nursing Home for their diligent
care for Dr. Williamson the last 3 1/2 years.
Memorials may be made to Lincoln Christian
Church, Lincoln Christian Village or Illinois
College at Jacksonville.
