Dear Editor: Since the end of World War I, America has sent aside
a day to honor the men and women, living and deceased, who dedicated
their lives to protect our country. These patriots made sacrifices,
not for glory or power, but to liberate others and to ensure our
nation's freedom. Since our country's inception, American citizens
have readily answered their nation's call to arms, fighting and
dying in order to preserve liberty and advance democracy throughout
the world.
On Veterans Day I ask that you reflect on the honor, duty and
sacrifice that the men and women of the United States armed forces
have made -- and continue to make -- in service to their country. I
salute their valor and commend their loyal patriotism.
Sincerely,
Larry Bomke
Illinois state senator
