[November 24, 2008]  BLOOMINGTON -- The Lincoln College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational this weekend. The women placed fourth out of eight teams, behind Illinois Wesleyan, Augustana University and Milliken University. Mallory Carpenter, Kelsi Kelley, Taylor Turman, Alice Fingerman and Mandi Hurd all swam season-bests for the Lynx in their respective events.

The men won every single individual event and both relays, finishing first ahead of seven teams. Brian Spittler broke two pool records, 200 IM and 100 fly. The pool record in the 100 fly was previously held by Lincoln College alumnus and national champion Kyle Kearbey. Spittler also took home the MVP of the meet, which is voted on by all of the head coaches.

Individual winners:

  • Daniel Corley -- 200 free, 100 free

  • Brian Spittler -- 200 IM, pool record; 100 fly, pool record; 100 breast

  • Adam Keane -- 1-meter diving; 3-meter diving

  • Gregorio Tedesco -- 50 free

  • Alex Madhuizen -- 100 back

  • Patrick Walters -- 500 free

Relay winners:

  • Men's 200 medley relay -- Madhuizen, Tedesco, Freidheim, Corley

  • Men's 200 free relay -- Tedesco, Reuck, Corley, Spittler

Coach Sexton's comments: "I was extremely proud with how we swam this past weekend. We had a really good week of practice, and I think that we came prepared to race. I'm thrilled for our women, who swam with tenacity and had some season-bests and huge time drops in both relays. The men dominated the meet from start to finish and refused to lose any event. I feel that the success we experienced this weekend will propel us to succeed in two weeks at the CollegeSwimming.com Classic in Kenosha, Wis. -- by far the largest meet of the season, other than NJCAA nationals."
