Menard County joins efforts to coordinate transportation

[October 04, 2008]  The Transit Partnership Group of Logan and Mason counties met on July 31 to discuss lackluster community transportation survey results. At that time, the survey deadline was extended to Oct. 31 to collect an additional 900 surveys.

Since that meeting, the organization has collected half of those surveys, and the group recently collected another county to join the efforts. Menard County will now be part of the Logan and Mason County Transit Partnership Group.

DonutsThe group's purpose is to complete a five-phase primer in order to access Section 5311 federal transportation program dollars available for rural counties. The Logan and Mason county boards began their process early 2008. The already established Menard group will collect community surveys as well and have them submitted by Oct. 31.

The public can visit www.capcil.org to fill out the survey.

"The Transit Partnership Group feels that including Menard County in our efforts makes complete sense. We know that Logan and Mason County folks often travel through Menard County to access services in Springfield. We look forward to working with Menard County," said Angela Stoltzenburg.

Stoltzenburg, executive director of Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois, is serving as team leader for the effort.

The next meeting has been scheduled for Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend and join the group's efforts. For more information, call 217-732-2159, ext. 224.
