Herbert Beyer

[October 29, 2008]  Herbert W. Beyer, 87, of Lincoln, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at home with his family.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral Home. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Beyer was a civil engineer. He worked for the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Lake Survey and more recently for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Herb was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Sabetha, Kan., to George and Ethel Simpson Beyer. He married Norma Jean Smalley Maxson on April 19, 1980.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Lincoln; two sons, Frank David (and Marcia) Beyer of Springfield and Paul Ross (and Nancy) Beyer of Springfield; one stepson, Ronald Joel (and Cheryl) Maxson of Florida; two grandchildren, Warren D. Beyer of Pennsylvania and Ashley Rubin de la Barbola of Tennessee; two stepgrandchildren, Justin A. Maxson of Florida and Kyle T. Maxson of Springfield; and four great-grandchildren, James D. Beyer, Patric D. Beyer and Ryann E. Beyer, all of Pennsylvania, and Lucian de la Barbola of Tennessee.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lincoln.
