[October 30, 2008]  WASHINGTON (AP) -- Less than a month after firing Pat Corrales as their bench coach, the Washington Nationals are making him a special consultant to general manager Jim Bowden.

Washington also announced Wednesday that former major league outfielder Devon White will be a special assistant for player development. White was the Nationals' roving outfield coordinator last season.

The 67-year-old Corrales was manager Manny Acta's bench coach the past two seasons. Most of Acta's coaching staff was removed on the last day of the regular season.

The Nationals went 59-102, the worst record in the major leagues.
