As the first order of the evening, Henrichsmeyer accepted the
invitation, was sworn in and seated, and cast his first votes on
matters of business. At 30 years of age, Henrichsmeyer is the
youngest council member. He's been in Lincoln 25 years and spent his
first five years in Mount Pulaski. He is an engineering manager for
SourceForge, a company out of California, and has his office with
Integrity Data in Lincoln. His wife, Krista, was present for his
swearing in. They have two children, a daughter, 5, and a son, 2.
Henrichsmeyer's father is also named Dean.
Henrichsmeyer has no prior government office experience. He said
that he contacted the mayor when she asked for people with an
interest. His motivation for taking office: "I enjoy living in
Lincoln, and with a young family, I want it to be the best it can
be." He said that in the immediate future he would just look to
settle in, learn the position and what is happening here.
Aldermen serve on five committees. The mayor has appointed
Henrichsmeyer to chair the sanitation committee, which includes
animal control, and vice chair the buildings and grounds committee.
The other three committees would be announced next week, she said.

The mayor announced that Melody Anderson would move from sanitation
to chair the finance, policies and procedures committee.
Henrichsmeyer fills the seat vacated by longtime council member
Benny Huskins, who retired in July.
The city of Lincoln has five wards with two aldermen per ward.
Aldermen's terms are for four years. To provide continuity, the two
positions in each ward are staggered to expire on alternating two
years. The term Henrichsmeyer accepted expires April 30, 2009.
Anderson serves as the other Ward 1 alderman, and her term would
expire April 30, 2011.
