Rev. Napoleon Bonaparte

[August 04, 2009]  The Rev. Napoleon L. Bonaparte, 81, of Lincoln, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at 1:33 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

His funeral will be at noon Friday, Aug. 7, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. The Rev. Peggy Senor, the Rev. Martin Andrews and the Rev. Glenn Shelton will co-officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 263.

He was a retired stationary engineer for the General Services Administration.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He was born June 16, 1928 in Lincoln. He married Odell Keys in Chicago in 1963.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one daughter, Gwendolyn Mallory of Chicago; seven sons, Kenneth and Keith Jackson, both of Chicago, and Napoleon Kendall, Glen (and wife Becky), Nathaniel (and wife Angela), Mario (and wife Michelle), and Tommy Bonaparte, all of Lincoln; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Glenn Alice Banks, and three brothers, Lyle, James and Charles Banks.

He was a member of the Allen Chapel AME Church, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1756, a member of American Legion Post 263, 40/8 of Logan County, King David United Supreme Council AF and AM, and Imperial Grand Council AAONMS.

Funeral Director

In the World War II era, he served with distinction from November 1945 to August 1946 as a steward's mate second class. He also served with distinction as a seaman during the Korean War, from July 1952 to June 1954.

Memorials may be made to Allen Chapel AME.
