Ruth Hendee

[August 17, 2009]  Ruth Hendee, 98, of Lincoln, died in the early morning hours Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Hendee was employed by Jewel Tea Company in Barrington for many years. She returned to Illinois in September 1992 after living for many years in Homestead, Fla., and surviving Hurricane Andrew.

She was born Sept. 29, 1910, in Charlotte, Mich., to Raymond and Mary Wolford Lane. She married Ralph Dale Hendee on Dec. 31, 1934, and he preceded her in death on July 26, 1991.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Dale (and his wife, Roberta) Hendee of Springfield and John Robert (and his wife, Anita) Hendee of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Margaret Wild of Stockbridge, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Belyea; her sister, Barbara Webb; and her brother, Jack Lane.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
