Alberts originally had been brought to Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital at about 6 a.m. Sunday by the boy's mother, Jody Alberts.
An emergency medical copter then flew the child to Children's
Hospital of Illinois in Peoria, where he was admitted at 8:15 a.m.
The toddler was pronounced dead at 2:28 p.m.
Because the child died in Peoria, the Peoria coroner conducted
the autopsy. Results of an autopsy by Ingersoll indicated that
Alberts died of trauma to the head.
The toddler's body has been released to the family and funeral
arrangements have been made. (Obituary)

afternoon and that there would be no comment out of the department
until that time. Geriets did say that as of 9 this morning, no one
had been charged with any crime.
Lincoln Police Department officials have scheduled a press
conference for 1:30 this afternoon in the Blue Room at the Logan
County Safety Complex.
