Beulah Blakeley

[August 22, 2009]  McLEAN -- Beulah Blakeley, 99 years and 360 days old, of Orange City, Fla., formerly of McLean, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Majestic Oaks Nursing Home in Florida.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the McLean United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Andy Maxwell officiating.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta and at the church one-half hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Burial will be McLean Cemetery, rural McLean.

Mrs. Blakeley taught in McLean for 23 years and later worked at the Mount Hope Funks Grove Library. She first taught school until she and Archie were married in 1932. They then farmed in McLean until the 1940s, when Archie became the rural mail carrier in McLean.

She was born on a farm at Oakford on Aug. 22, 1909. Her parents were William and Grace Isley Ogden. She married Archie Blakeley on Nov. 25, 1932, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1983.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth (and Dorothy) Blakeley of Fredericksburg, Va.; one granddaughter, Linda Blakeley of Rockville, Md.; two grandsons, Richard (and Julie) Blakeley of Lincolnton, N.C., and Michael (and Traci) Blakeley of Waldorf, Md.; two great-grandsons, Andrew and Matthew Blakeley; three great-granddaughters, Erin, Ashley and Whitney Blakeley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was very active in the McLean Methodist Church for over 40 years. She taught Sunday school and served one term as the church school superintendent.

She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

She attended Blackburn College.
