[December 07, 2009]  OLNEY -- Basketball is a game of runs, and there were plenty Saturday night in the Olney Classic. Lincoln had a hard time matching up with the guard-oriented, dribble-drive Olney team.

InsuranceLincoln coach Kirk Whiteman assessed the game:

"We had three starters on the bench the last 10 minutes of the half due to foul problems. However, we were able to establish five- to 10-point (leads) most (of) the first half and were up 35-31 at halftime.

"However, the start of the second half saw us make very poor decisions on shot selection for our first two possessions, and the next thing we know, (we) were down 12 points with 12 minutes to go.

"I am proud that we were able to sit down and guard and get better shots over the next eight minutes. We were able to get down 58-61 and Louie Schonauer hit a big shot with three minutes left to put us down one point. Chris Ware gets basket after a defensive stop to put us up one, and after another stop, Kyler Works gets a basket while fouled and hits the free throw to put us up 65-61 with a couple minutes to play.

"While we struggled from the foul line (18-33), DeMarius Sumrell hit two big free throws with 12 seconds left to put us up 72-68."

Chris Ware had 16 points, Kyler Works 14, Louie Schonauer 12 and Kenyon Smith 10. Smith had seven rebounds for the game and Works had six assists.

With the win Lincoln improves to 9-4, Olney drops to 7-4.

Lincoln opens conference play on the road Saturday at John Wood.
