Gary Sotzen

[December 28, 2009]  CHESTNUT -- Gary R. Sotzen, 57, of Chestnut, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at 8:59 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Bill Shanle officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Sotzen was former owner of Gary's Tire and Repair in Mount Pulaski and also worked for Hayes' Garage in Mount Pulaski.

He was born Feb. 12, 1952, in Lincoln to Richard and Fern Vandevender Sotzen.

He is survived by two daughters, Heidi Sotzen of Jacksonville, Fla., and Heather (and Thomas) Ehardt of Franklin, Tenn., one brother, James Franklin Sotzen of Lockport; two sisters, Sharon L. (and Gary) Brinkmeyer of Charleston and Gloria L. (and Ron) Helgert of Fairview Heights; his companion, Mary Ann McKinnon of Chestnut; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of Chestnut Men's Club and Mount Pulaski Sons of the American Legion Post 447.

Funeral Director

He graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1970.

Memorials may be made to the seventh-floor intensive care unit at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
