[February 06, 2009]  SPRINGFIELD -- A graveside service for Rita C. Logsdon, 81, of Springfield, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cemetery, Lincoln.

Miss Logsdon died Jan. 29, 2009, at St. John's Hospice.

She was employed by the state of Illinois for over 40 years, primarily in the Department of Conservation. A highlight of her career was serving as administrative assistant to William L. Rutherford. The remainder of her service was in the attorney general's office.

She was born July 24, 1927. Her parents were Russell C. Logsdon and Almetta M. Logsdon Danoski.

She is survived by three nephews, James H. Griffin of Lincoln, David R. (and Linda) Logsdon of Nashville and DeWitt A. (and Brenda) Logsdon of Columbia, Tenn.; one niece, Tillie Griffin of Lincoln; a sister-in-law, Frances Logsdon of Columbia, Tenn.; three great-nephews, Greg Griffin, Jeffrey Logsdon and Andrew Logsdon; one great-niece, Christine Wallace; numerous great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and two special friends, Marjorie Turney and Lucille Foster, both of Springfield.

She was an avid golfer and bowler and was inducted into the Springfield Women's Bowling Hall of Fame. She also enjoyed working with her flowers and feeding the animals.

Funeral Directors

She graduated from the University of Illinois in Springfield in 1975 with a degree in justice and social order.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Road, Springfield, IL 62702; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
