Mr. Mates was a
security guard for Lincoln Developmental Center.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was born July 19, 1949, in Galesburg to Rodney
and Charlotte Bybee Mates. He married Coleen Lougee
on June 27, 1970, in Edwardsville.
He is survived by one daughter, Amber (and John)
Bone of Lincoln; his father; two sisters, Rhonda
Johnson of Springfield and Marcia Coyne of Milan;
two grandchildren, Arika and Kian Bone of Lincoln;
one nephew, Sean Johnson; and two nieces, Chari
Tomlin and Sarah Coyne.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one
brother, Thomas Mates.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's
Hospital.
