Phyllis Purlee

[January 22, 2009]  LAWNDALE -- Phyllis M. Purlee, 82, of Lawndale, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at 8:55 p.m. at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Tim Searby officiating.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery in rural Lawndale.

Mrs. Purlee retired as postmistress at Lawndale in February 1988.

She was born Feb. 2, 1926, in rural Waynesville to Ralph and Lucille Dreher Kurtz. She married Ernest "Dick" Purlee on May 19, 1945.

She is survived by her husband; four children, Donald Purlee of Goodfield, Sharon (and Ken) Bell of Lincoln, Theresa (and Harold) Ingram of Crossville, Tenn., and Jerry (and Linda) Purlee of Lawndale; one sister, Frances Holleman of Wapella; one brother, Wendell Kurtz of Edina, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Kris Hicks, Jeff Bell, Eric Bell, Kimberly Horn, Harold Ingram III, Trisha Painter, Jerry Purlee Jr., Stacy Plummer, Jodi Carroll and Jodi Purlee; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Dwight Kurtz.

Funeral Director

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Lincoln Christian Church.
